VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Guilford College softball team (13-18-1, 3-9 ODAC) continued their long road stand beachside, against No. 1 nationally-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University (32-0, 14-0 ODAC) who controlled flawlessly in all moments at the dish, faltering the Quakers defensively in a 10-1 decision in favor of the Marlins, while matching that outing with a 9-1 Virginia Wesleyan victory during the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at Broyles Field.

Mazie Fisher (Virginia Beach, Va.) landed the start in the circle for Guilford, unable to cash-in an out during the first in 0.0 innings of work, dropping four runs, three earned, off four hits, falling to 0-2 on the season.
Abbey Whelan (Gaithersburg, Md.) would enter out of the bullpen for the Quakers, struggling to find her footing in 1.2 frames, giving up six runs on five hits and five walks.
Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) closed things out in the remaining 2.1 innings of action, surrendering two hits, one walk, while striking out one.

Hannah Hearl drew the nod for Virginia Wesleyan in the circle, continuing her dominant performances in 3.0 innings, only dropping two hits while striking out four for the win, advancing to 16-0 overall. Savannah Ballou came in relief for the Marlins tossing 2.0 innings, dropping one run on one walk.

Brooke Goyings (Lake Villa, Ill.) logged a perfect 1-for-1 slash line at the plate for Guilford.
Nicole Drew (Raleigh, N.C.) collected many scoring chances for the Quakers in a 1-for-2 effort. In a pinch running appearance,
Logan Monkus (Matthews, N.C.) scored the lone run for Guilford, swiping her first stolen base on the year.

The Marlins bats were raking in the opening contest as Laci Campbell bashed 2-for-2 with one run scored, one walk, two walks, and one stolen base. Morgan Tucker followed suit in perfection with a 2-for-2 display, with two runs, two RBIs, one walk, and a triple early in the first. Karley Beltran matched her teammates, hitting 2-for-2, with one run, two RBIs, and two bags swiped.

Emma Parnell (Troy, N.C.) started the clash for Guilford in the circle, displaying efficiencies early on before faltering in 1.2 frames, giving up six earned runs on five hits, four walks, striking out one for the loss, dropping to 1-3 on the season.
Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) came in relief for the Quakers, throwing 2.1 innings, surrendering three runs, one earned, on three hits, two walks, and striking out one.

Emma Adams was superb in her rubber match start for Virginia Wesleyan, pitching 4.0 innings, only giving up two hits and striking out four for the victory, advancing to 14-0 overall. Emma Orr wrapped things up for the Marlins in 1.0 frames of relief, dropping one run off two hits.

Nicole Gumula (Wellington, Fla.) led Guilford in a solid showing at the plate slashing 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Riley Murrish (Boerne, Texas) recorded 1-for-2 at the dish with Murrish swiping her first bag of the season.

Virginia Wesleyan controlled play offensively once more with Samantha Deitsch bashing 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Morgan Tucker dominated in all scoring chances for the Marlins in a 1-for-2 display with one run, four RBIs, one walk, and one home run. Riley Curtice cruised around the bases in a 1-for-2 effort with two runs and one stolen base.

Virginia Wesleyan kicked off the scoring early in the first with a 2-RBI triple Morgan Tucker. Taylor Mcqueen added on in the first with a single down the left field line, scoring Tucker to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead. Karley Beltran wrapped up Virginia Wesleyan's offensive command with a single, driving the Marlins to a 5-0 lead through one inning.

GAME 2
After an early pitchers dual in the first, Laci Campbell scored the first run of the battle for the Marlins off a single into left. Virginia Wesleyan loaded the bases midway through the second, pushing the momentum for Morgan Tucker's grand slam, giving the Marlins a 5-0 lead. Later in the inning, Alison Pollack added another run with an RBI-double, propelling Virginia Wesleyan to a quick 6-0 lead through two innings.

The Marlins would add on three more runs in the next two innings, with Samantha Deitsch launching an RBI-single into right center in the process.
Nicole Gumula (Wellington, Fla.) provided Guilford's only scoring opportunity with an RBI-single into left in the fifth. However, this would not be enough for the Quakers to overcome, resulting in a 9-1 decision in favor of Virginia Wesleyan after five innings.
