DANVILLE, Va. – The Guilford College softball team (15-18-1, 5-9 ODAC) took control of a midweek doubleheader early, traveling up Route 29 to clash with Averett University (19-15, 4-10 ODAC), holding them scoreless in the opener off Shiloh Gray's (Lexington, N.C.) record-breaking outing, 3-0, and following with the Quakers-bats becoming red hot for a 6-3 result in favor of Guilford in the rubber match on Wednesday evening at Cougar Field.

Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) was lights out in her 7.0 innings of work, only allowing four hits, two walks, while striking out one for the victory, advancing to 4-5 overall. Gray marks her 52nd complete game of her career at Guilford, surpassing Jennifer Evans '06 for the program record of total career complete games all time.

Hannah Zabik got the nod in game one for Averett, tossing 5.2 innings, surrendering four runs, three earned, on five hits, three walks, while striking out one for the loss, falling to 10-5 on the year. Guilford's bats came through soundly in the opener as Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) led her team in slashing 2-for-3. Kendall Boggs (Stoneville, N.C.) was perfect in bashing 1-for-1 with two walks and one run scored. Kaylee Harris (Mooresville, N.C.) would follow suit with a 1-for-2 performance at the dish.

Minimal production ensued offensively for Averett as Hailey Akers logged a 2-for-3 slash line. Brianna Brooks and Carson Bradsher cashed in the remaining two knocks for the Cougars in batting 1-for-3.

Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) etched herself a complete game of her own in the circle for Guilford, throwing 7.0 innings, allowing three earned runs off nine hits and one walk, escaping with the victory to advance to 5-1 on the season.

Kaci Stephenson could not escape out of the first during her start for Averett, pitching 0.2 innings, surrendering four runs, three earned off four hits and one walk for the loss, falling to 1-3 overall. Cora Liggon entered in relief once more for the Cougars, not faring much better in 6.1 innings of work, dropping two earned runs off six hits, one walk, striking out two in the process.

Savannah Newton (Concord, N.C.) topped the Quakers at the dish in game two, bashing 2-for-4 with two runs scored. GAME 1
All scoring accrued for the Quakers off defensive miscues by Averett as Nicole Drew (Raleigh, N.C.) would reach on a fielders choice in the second with the bases loaded, sending home Kendall Boggs (Stoneville, N.C.) for an early 1-0 Guilford lead. Kaylyn Little (Locust, N.C.) continued the same story in later on in the fourth sixth to score two more runs, with Janey Galek (Charlotte, N.C.) putting this clash on ice by sending home one more off a fielders choice. Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) closed things out in her record-shattering outing during the seventh, sealing a 4-0 decision in favor of Guilford.

GAME 2
Kaylyn Little (Locust, N.C.) got things started early in the evening clash with a  2RBI- single into right field in the first. Chloee Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) would not be far behind with an RBI-knock up the middle, with Kaley Mitchell (Lake Waccamaw, N.C.) adding on to that tally in reaching off a fielder's choice for Guilford to take an early 4-0 lead.

With the Quakers having one runner on in the fourth, Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) contributed to Guilford's hot streak offensively with an RBI-sac fly, sending home Savannah Newton (Concord, N.C.), extending Guilford's lead, 5-0, through the fourth. Kailey Gates got Averett on the board during the bottom-half of the inning sending an RBI-single up the middle to cut the Cougars deficit to four. After Averett added one more run in the sixth, Hannah Zabik sent an RBI-double down the left field line in recording Averett's ultimate runs of the contest. Kaylee Harris (Mooresville, N.C.) wrapped this game up with an RBI-single to send home Nicole Gumula (Wellington, Fla.), resulting in a dominant 6-3 victory in favor of Guilford.
