Women’s Lacrosse Sets New Program Scoring Record in 27-2 Victory at Columbia

Nusraty posts .714 save rate and DeFeo nets eight goals in Quakers’ historic performance

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team (2-3, 0-1 ODAC) rewrote the record books on Saturday afternoon, putting together a historic offensive performance to defeat Columbia College (0-6, 0-0 AAC), 27-2. The 27 goals scored mark a new program record for goals in a single game, extending the Quakers' winning streak to two games, both of which featured 20-plus goals from the Guilford attack.

The Quakers outshot the Koalas 43-10 and maintained nearly total control of possessions by winning the draw control battle 21-9. This effort was marked by Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.), who recorded a career-high 10 draw controls.

Marlene Nusraty (Damascus, Md.) earned the win in the cage, recording five saves for a .714 save percentage while holding Columbia scoreless for the final three quarters of play. On the other side of the field, Columbia's Lillianna Imhof stopped nine shots.

The Koalas were led by Taylor Gipson, who scored two goals on five shot attempts.

Carm DeFeo (Shelton, Conn.) delivered a performance for the ages, setting a new career high with eight goals on just 10 shots. Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) found the back of the net five times, and Garland added five goals of her own. Hannah McMasters (Browns Summit, N.C.) remained a dual threat, netting five goals and dishing out five assists.

More contributors include Kaylee Carr (Plant City, Fla.), who matched her career high with two goals while providing two assists. Re'lla Grissett (Fayetteville, N.C.) celebrated a personal milestone, netting her first career goal at the 6:33 mark in the second quarter. Chanelle Fossie (Westampton, N.J.) and Kennedy Gates (Cornelius, N.C.) each added a tally to round out the record-setting scoreline.

Guilford asserted dominance early, racing out to a 10-2 lead in the first period. The Quakers' defense then completely shut the door, allowing zero goals over the remaining 45 minutes of play while the offense added six goals in the second, six in the third, and five in the fourth.

The Quakers will look to keep the momentum rolling as they return to the Armfield Athletic Center on Wednesday, March 11th. Guilford will host Montreat College (N.C.) with the opening draw scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
