GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team (3-3, 0-1 ODAC) matched a historic milestone on Wednesday afternoon, tying the program record for goals in a single game for the second time in a week to defeat Montreat College (3-3, 0-0 AAC), 27-1. The victory extends the Quakers' winning streak to three games, marking the first time the program has achieved such a streak since the 2020 season.
Guilford's execution was nearly flawless, highlighted by a perfect 20-for-20 performance on clear attempts. The Quakers dominated the shot count 39-7 and maintained a 20-10 advantage in draw controls to dictate the pace of play throughout all four quarters.
Marlene Nusraty (Damascus, Md.) earned the win in the cage, blocking one shot to finish with a .500 save percentage. On the other side of the field, Anastasia Rust tallied five saves.
Montreat's lone goal was scored by Ruthann Stout in the first period.
For the Quakers,
Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.) led the charge with a career-high eight goals on nine shots, while also securing eight draw controls.
Hannah McMasters (Browns Summit, N.C.) remained lethal from the 8-meter arc, finishing 2-for-2 on free-position opportunities as part of a five-goal, two-assist performance.
Carm DeFeo (Shelton, Conn.) mirrored that production with five goals and two assists of her own.
The afternoon featured several individual milestones for the Quakers' roster.
Leyla Strong (Concord, N.C.) recorded her first career goal at the 2:08 mark of the second period.
Trinity Whitfield (Greensboro, N.C.) netted her first career goal in the third quarter off an assist from
Emily Parker (Lillington, N.C.), who led the team with three assists to go along with two goals.
Other contributors included
Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.), who tallied a hat trick, and
Chanelle Fossie (Westampton, N.J.), who added a goal and an assist.
Kennedy Gates (Cornelius, N.C.) and
Kaylee Carr (Plant City, Fla.) also chipped in points to support the record-tying scoreline.
Guilford asserted dominance from the opening whistle, racing out to a 9-1 lead in the first period behind a flurry of goals from Wood, McMasters, and Garland. The Quakers' defense then locked down Appenzeller Field, allowing zero goals over the remaining 45 minutes of play. Meanwhile, the offense remained relentless, adding three goals in the second, nine in the third, and six in the fourth.
Guilford will look to carry this momentum on the road as they travel to face Bridgewater College on Saturday, March 14th. The opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
