GREENSBORO, N.C. – Headlined by collegiate milestones by
Chloee Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) and
Savannah Newton (Concord, N.C.), the Guilford College softball team (11-14-1, 1-5 ODAC) concluded a busy weekend of softball, clashing against conference foe Shenandoah University (16-6, 5-3 ODAC), securing their first ODAC victory of the season through an offensively-dominant game one by a 13-7 decision, while the Hornets stormed back in the closing contest in commanding fashion, 16-4 on Sunday afternoon at Haworth Field.

Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) received the start for the Quakers in the circle for game one, unable to gain any ground early in 1.1 innings of work, surrendering three earned runs off three hits and two walks.
Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) controlled the script throughout most of the battle, tossing 2.2 innings, dropping two earned runs off three hits, one walk, and striking out one, securing the victory to advance to 2-4 on the year.
Emma Parnell (Troy, N.C.) closed things out for the Quakers, the long way, pitching 3.0 solid frames, only giving up two runs, one earned, off three hits, and four walks, earning her first collegiate save.

Gracie Ravenkamp struggled out of the gate in her start for Shenandoah, pitching 2.2 innings while surrendering a battering 10 runs, four being earned, off ten hits, one walk, striking out one, for the loss to drop to 7-2 overall. Ava Matthews entered in relief for the Hornets, tossing 3.1 innings, dropping three runs, two earned off four hits, striking out three in the process.

Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) was stellar at the dish for Guilford, bashing a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBIs.
Nicole Drew (Raleigh, N.C.) added to the Quakers' success with a 2-for-3 showing with two runs and two RBIs.
Savannah Newton (Concord, N.C.) displayed her speed around the bases, swiping four bags in a 2-for-3 outing, scoring three runs in the process.
Janey Galek (Charlotte, N.C.) slashed a solid 2-for-4 line, scoring twice for Guilford in their conference win.

Peyton Jensen and Sarah Medellin topped Shenandoah at the plate with Jensen recording 2-for-4 with one RBI, while Medlin logged 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Abbey Whelan (Gaithersburg, Md.) got the nod for Guilford in game two, pitching a relief stint throughout the clash, tossing 5.1 total innings, surrendering a shattering nine runs, seven being earned on 13 hits, three walks, striking out eight for the loss to fall to 4-5 on the season.
Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) could not fare much better coming out of the bullpen, tossing 0.2 innings, dropping five earned runs on five hits and two walks.
Mazie Fisher (Virginia Beach, Va.) wrapped things up for the Quakers, pitching 1.0 innings, giving up two earned runs, on three hits, and one walk.

Cadence Reig was solid for the Hornets, throwing a complete game of 7.0 innings, surrendering four runs, three earned, on seven hits, four walks, striking out one for the victory to advance to 5-3 overall.

Two major accomplishments occurred throughout the rubber match for Guilford.
Chloe Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) reached a career milestone of 100-career hits in a 1-for-2 effort, with one walk and one double.
Savannah Newton (Concord, N.C.) is currently tied for third in program history for total triples in a single season. Newton sits alongside five other Guilford-greats for this honor after her 1-for-3 outing with one RBI and one run scored.
Keiya Bullock (Peletier, N.C.) tallied the most hits for the Quakers throughout game two, bashing 2-for-3.

The bats were alive and well for Shenandoah, as Allison McQueeney slashed 5-for-6 with two runs, three RBIs, one double, and a swiped bag. Brenna Westwood followed suit with a 4-for-5 showing with three runs, two RBIs, and one walk. Makayla Cox added to the Hornets' success, hitting 3-for-5 with one run, three runs batted in, and a double. Maddie Esham scored once in a 2-for-4 display, launching one double in the process.

Candence Reig and Keegan Cooper kicked off the scoring with both launching RBI-singles, allowing the Hornets to take an early 2-0 lead, midway through the first. With the bases loaded,
Keiya Bullock (Peletier, N.C.) sent home a Quakers baserunner off an RBI single down through the left side. After defensive miscues by Shenandoah that tied things up at three,
Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) sent in two with a single into center for Guilford to take their first lead of the contest.

In a back-and-forth battle,
Chloee Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) sent a RBI-double into left field to take a two-run lead.
Brooke Goyings (Lake Villa, Ill.) contributed an infield RBI-single, while
Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) sent in two more Guilford baserunners with a single into left, adding on to a four-run inning for the Quakers. Things would get out of hand for Shenandoah late, with
Savannah Newton (Concord, N.C.) putting this game on ice when she caught the Hornets off guard with a steal to third, scoring on a Shenandoah error, leading to a 13-7 decision in favor of Guilford.

GAME 2
After Shenandoah took an early 2-0 lead in the first,
Janey Galek (Raleigh, N.C.) commenced the scoring for Guilford with an RBI single into center. The Quakers achieved their first lead of the game in the third with
Savannah Newton's (Concord, N.C.) RBI-triple into right field.
Kaylee Harris (Mooresville, N.C.) added to Guilford's control off a Shenandoah defensive mistake, reaching on the error while scoring one for a 4-2 Quakers' lead.

That would be the only offensive performance Guilford has to show, as Makayla Cox stole the lead back for Shenandoah from a 2-RBI double into left center. In the fifth, Allison McQueeney sent a single up the middle to score another Hornets baserunner. Things would get out of hand in the seventh from Maddie Esham's double into right center, clearing all of the bases for Shenandoah. In a 16-4 Hornets blow-out victory, Cadence Reig sealed the contest with an RBI single up the middle, closing the decision in favor of Shenandoah during the rubber match.

Guilford receives a small break before returning to conference play, taking on the WildCats of Randolph College on Wednesday, April 8th. First pitch of game one will commence at 3:00 PM, while game two is at 5:00 PM.
