BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team (3-4, 0-2 ODAC) saw its three-game winning streak come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling to Bridgewater College (4-3, 1-0 ODAC) in a conference road test, 18-8. Despite the final score, the Quakers remained resilient through sixty minutes of play, highlighted by a career-best performance in the cage and 18 successful clear attempts.
Marlene Nusraty (Damascus, Md.) shined in goal for the Quakers, delivering a career-high 15 saves while facing 30 shots on goal. Nusraty finished the afternoon with a .460 save percentage and also scooped up three ground balls in the effort. In the opposing crease, Maisen Jenkins turned away four shots, while Addison McDaniel added a save of her own to round out the Eagles' five-stop performance.
Bridgewater was led by Ella Price, who netted four goals. Paige Overeem, Paige Mayers, and Andrea Lorca each added a hat trick.
For Guilford,
Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.),
Hannah McMasters (Browns Summit, N.C.), and
Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) led the offensive charge with two goals apiece. McMasters remained clinical from the 8-meter arc, finishing 1-for-1 on free-position shots as part of a three-point performance, while Garland added an assist to match that three-point total.
Carm DeFeo (Shelton, Conn.) also provided a multi-point game with a goal and an assist to go along with three draw controls.
Chanelle Fossie (Westampton, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for the afternoon, netting a goal in the second period. Defensively,
Natalia Rubio (Greensboro, N.C.) anchored the backline, leading the Quakers with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The contest began as a tight defensive battle, with the two sides trading goals to end the first period in a 3-3 stalemate. However, the Eagles found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the Quakers 7-2 to take a five-goal lead into the break.
Guilford's defense, led by Nusraty and Rubio, continued to fight in the second half, but a late surge from Bridgewater in the final period sealed the result, 18-8.
Guilford will return to Appenzeller Field this coming week as they look to bounce back in a non-conference matchup. The Quakers are scheduled to host McDaniel College on Wednesday, March 18th, with the opening draw set for 3:00 p.m.
