Scott, Giannopoulou Power Women’s Basketball Past Lynchburg

Third straight ODAC win fueled by dominant duo and late-game execution

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Guilford College women's basketball team (17-3, 8-3 ODAC) continued its hot streak on the road Wednesday night, earning a 70-60 conference victory over the University of Lynchburg (11-9, 4-7 ODAC) inside Turner Gym.

Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) and Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) led the way with 23 points apiece, forming a dominant inside-out duo all evening. Scott capped her performance with a perfect 9-for-9 showing at the free-throw line, while Giannopoulou posted her 10th double-double of the season, ranking 10th in program history. Giannopoulou also directed the defense with 13 rebounds and a block, continuing to rank 12th nationally in blocks.

The Hornets were led by Kate Littlejohn, who finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Audra Petty followed with 15 points and nine boards, while Brooke Cason chipped in eight points and four steals.

Guilford set the tone from the opening minutes, jumping out to a 22-14 first-quarter lead behind layups from Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.) and Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.).

The Hornets responded in the second quarter, but Guilford maintained control, closing the half on a pair of Scott free throws to take a 36-26 advantage into the break.

Although Lynchburg made a push out of halftime, Guilford answered: Taylor Dunn (Charlotte, N.C.) scored late in the period to steady the offense, while the Quakers leaned on their defense to limit second-chance opportunities. Guilford entered the fourth quarter ahead 54-47 and never relinquished the lead.

In the fourth, a fast-break finish from Massenburg pushed the lead to double figures; Dunn buried a three-pointer off a turnover with under a minute to play, finalizing the game at an even 70-60.

Guilford returns home to the Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse this Saturday, February 7, for Senior Day and a rematch against conference rival Bridgewater College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.
