FOREST, Va. – The superlatives being bestowed to the brilliant first season with the Guilford College men's basketball team for
Braylen Salters (Cleveland, Ohio) just keep rolling in, as the sophomore continues to raise the bar, claiming Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in the last five weeks, this one for the week ending on February 15
th, as announced by the conference offices on Monday afternoon.
With the fourth and fifth 30-plus point showings of his debut season in Greensboro, Salters was dominant again for GC as the Quakers split their duo of ODAC matchups. Netting a total of 68 points in the two contests, he averaged 34.0 points and did so efficiently, shooting .475/.467/.852 (19-40/7-15/23-27) while also accruing seven rebounds, three offensive, three assists, and a couple steals. The Ohio native opened the week with a bang, shredding No. 21 Roanoke's number-five scoring defense in Division-III Men's Basketball, netting 33 points, the most by any player against the Maroons this season, besting the prior high of 27 by himself back in the ODAC opener in December. Of his scoring output, 21 tallies came in the game's second half to drive the Quakers to the upset victory by the score of 89-85 while he shot .444/.429/.875 (8-18/3-7/14-16) in the game and had four rebounds, two offensive, one assist, and two steals in the critical conference win. He followed that up with an even-more impressive showing against Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday despite a defeat, 88-83. On Senior Day Saturday, it was the sophomore who stole the show, netting 35 points on .500/.500/.818 (11-22/4-8/9-11) with three rebounds, one offensive, and two assists. Against another of the nation's most-stout defenses, ranked 66th entering the game in points permitted, he matched the second-highest solo scoring output the Tigers have allowed this season and the most they have yielded in a conference contest.
With his recent run, Salters has added 1.5 points to his season scoring average, quite the feat for this stage in the
campaign. Along the way, he has elevated to 14
th in the nation in both total points and scoring average, accumulating 541 total tallies on a 23.5 rate. His 541 points are already the seventh-most in the program's Division-III era and matched the Quakers' team-leader from a season ago,
Nick Farrar '25, albeit in just 23 games compared to Farrar's 28 contests last winter. Also, the best in the ODAC at getting to the stripe, Salters ranks third in the nation in free throw makes, with 182, and fourth in tries with 219 resulting on a .831 free throw percentage, slotted 93
rd nationally. He also ranks in the national top-150 in three-point makes and attempts, steals, and steals per game. Conference-wide, there have been 11 different players who have scored over 32 points in a game this year, and Salters owns five of them, including four in his last five games.
The Quakers have flexed their outstanding balance all year, becoming the first team in ODAC history to see their entire starting-five get ODAC Player of the Week honors at least once. Alongside one-time honorees,
Rival Axselle (Mechanicsville, Va.),
Kody Clayton (Cary, N.C.),
Dawson Edwards (Durham, N.C.), and
Gabe Proctor (Apex, N.C.), Salters now has a trio, matching Farrar's 2024-25 season total. The Quakers now raise the bar on their already record-setting Player of the Week nods, up to seven recognitions on the year.
