VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Guilford College women's basketball team (18-4, 9-4 ODAC) secured a regular season sweep of Virginia Wesleyan University (12-10, 6-7 ODAC) with a 63-57 road victory Tuesday evening inside TowneBank Arena.
Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) led Guilford with 14 points and added four steals, further cementing her place as the ODAC leader in the category.
Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) added 12 points of her own and swatted down three shots, as she continues to rank first in the ODAC and 13th nationally in blocks.
Taylor Dunn (Charlotte, N.C.) contributed 13 points, while
Anaida Datilus (Chantilly, France) supplied seven points and five rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench.
Elly Trickett (Greer, S.C.) delivered five points and three rebounds, and
Karly Glahn (Charlotte, N.C.) added seven points as Guilford leaned on its depth in a physical conference matchup.
Bre Robinson sparked the Marlins' offense with 16 points and a pair of steals. Brianna Long turned in a double-double performance with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Sydney Turner chipped in 12 points and seven boards.
Guilford set the tone early, taking a narrow 15-14 lead after the first quarter.
The Quakers tightened defensively in the second, bolstered by a pair of defensive rebounds from
Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.), limiting the Marlins to just nine points while carrying a 31-22 edge into halftime.
Virginia Wesleyan responded in the third quarter, trimming the deficit to 44-40 heading into the final frame.
Guilford maintained composure down the stretch, creating crucial defensive stops to preserve the six-point triumph, 63-57.
Guilford continues its road campaign with another ODAC matchup, traveling to Ashland, Va., to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, February 14th. Tipoff is set for 4:30 PM.
