ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Guilford College Volleyball team (6-13, 2-2 ODAC) traveled to Clinton College (11-6, 1-0 NCCAA) to take on the Lions of Paine College (0-10, 0-0 NCCAA), and the host Golden Bears, defeating Paine College 3-1, before falling to Clinton 2-3, Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE
The Quakers scored 65 points to the Lions' 47, and had two more aces than Paine with 13. The Lions had a strong day at the net, putting up seven blocks, to the Quakers' zero, while GC's back-row defense picked up 67 digs, compared to Paine's 40.

Kill-wise, Guilford was led by
Olivia Thorne (Huntersville, N.C.) with 18, who was followed by
Olivia Roberts (Claremont, Calif.) with 10.
Makenna Brown (Elizabethtown, Ky.) made three aces from the service line, while
Chloe Lynch (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Karly Peacock (Honolulu, Hawaii) each had a pair, themselves.
Jillian Mapes (Hodges, N.C) played a big role in generating offense with 32 assists. On the defensive side, Peacock led the Quakers with 15 digs, closely followed by
Sheryangelis Cay Barbosa (Juncos, Puerto Rico) with 13.

For the Lions, Jamaya Allen and Akirah McCrae led the offense with nine and seven kills, respectively, and three aces a piece. McCrae also had five blocks, most on the team, and Jamia Seals assisted 16 of the team's kills.

Guilford had a slow start against the Lions, dropping the first set, before coming back to dominate the last three and take the win. Paine took the first set, 25-21, showing their biggest offensive push of the match early.

The Quakers came out of the set break motivated, taking the second set 25-13, followed by another dominant set with a score of 25-19.

Guilford sealed the deal in the fourth set, with a decisive 25-18 score over the Lions.

GAME TWO
Guilford's second match of the day, facing the host Golden Bears, proved to be a back and forth battle. Clinton topped the Quakers in kills (57-40), aces (14-8), blocks (8-5), assists (50-35), and digs (71-56).

Olivia Roberts led the Quakers in game two with 15 kills, followed by
Ashlin Paul (Hampstead, N.C.) and
Maiya Yeaton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) with six a piece.
Makenna Brown picked up five aces from the service line and 12 assists, while
Jillian Mapes had 21 assists. Paul also led the team in blocks, with 2.0, while
Karly Peacock made 14 digs on the defensive end.

Madison Weber of Clinton led all players with 20 kills, while Sierra Faulkner made 27 assists and six aces to add on offensively. Camille Newton kept the game alive with 20 digs, while Heaven Saycon played solid defense at the net with 7.0 blocks.

Clinton took the first set, 25-17, before Guilford battled back in the second and third sets, taking them 25-21 and 25-16. Despite having momentum going into the fourth set, the Quakers were only able to make 11 points for the Golden Bears to force a fifth set.

Clinton took the final set of the day, 15-11, to finalize the 3-2 decision over Guilford.

The Quakers are back in action, Wednesday, October 7, returning to conference play against the University of Lynchburg. First serve is set for 7:00 PM at the Ragan-Brown FieldHouse.
