WINCHESTER, Va. – Securing their best team finish since 2015, the ladies of the Guilford College men's and women's cross country teams enjoyed their best Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) showing in over a decade, taking eighth although the men's team did not factor into the team scoring at the ODAC Cross Country Championship hosted by Shenandoah University at Kernstown Battlefield on Saturday morning.
It was a Generals sweep this year at the conference championship race, as the Washington & Lee University women completed a three-peat followed by the University of Lynchburg and Batten University in the initial, women's 6K championship. W&L's men, meanwhile, put all-five of their scorers in the top-six, falling just a single place short of a minimum score to take home their second-straight title from Lynchburg with Roanoke University taking third.
Running their first 6K of the season to open the day, the Quaker women performed well in the 85-runner field with their eighth-place team finish out of 10 teams who scored.
Kateria Peters (Wilmington, N.C.) decided she was not done rewriting the record books just yet, running a 26:09.3 to lead Guilford with a 42
nd place finish as her placing stands as the eighth-best by a GC runner at the conference championship meet and her time ranks 12
th, with both being the best by a Quaker since Emily Winder took 25
th with a 23:59.0 in 2019. Although she fell a few seconds short of her best ODAC Championship mark,
Piper Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.) did land her top finish at the annual event, claiming 51
st with a 27:12.2.
Kalaia Peters (Wilmington, N.C.) was 10 spots behind to land in 61
st place with a 28:17.7 time ahead of her sister,
Kaleah Peters (Wilmington, N.C.), who claimed 79
th with a mark of 34:29.8.
Bailey Overstreet (Charlotte, N.C.) completed Quaker scorers with a 47:57.4 to secure 85
th.
The men would finish a single man short of scoring this year as
Yassine Aallam (Holly Springs, N.C.) was the top GC runner out of the 109 finishers of the 8K race, taking 101
st with a time of 33:29.0.
Landis Brown (Lexington, N.C.) followed up four spots behind in 105
th with a 35:56.0.
Oscar Brock (New Orleans, La.) ran a 41:55.0 to finish 107
th followed by
Brennan Branch (Charlotte, N.C.) who took 109
th with a 48:09.4 time.
Guilford heads to another ODAC venue in two weeks for the NCAA South Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Lynchburg on Saturday, November 14
th at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. Start times are to be announced.
