Women’s Basketball Tramples Randolph Off Superior Offensive Performance

Glahn reaches career-high of 16 points in commanding victory over the WildCats.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Karly Glahn (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded her career-best of 16 points as the Guilford College women's basketball team (13-2 , 4-2 ODAC) controlled the entirety of regulation while clashing against Randolph College (7-8, 1-5 ODAC). The Quakers would convert heavily on the offensive-front resulting in a dominant ODAC victory, 85-52, inside Frances and Don Giles Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

Glahn would lead the charge for Guilford off shooting 6-8 (75.0%) from the field and 4-5 (80.0%) from the three-point arch to record her career-best point total of her freshman campaign. Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) would follow-suit with 16 points of her own off of firing 6-9 (66.7%) from the field, 2-2 (100.0%), and 2-3 (66.7%) from the free-throw line. Giannopoulou would snag three rebounds and a career-best of four steals defensively. Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) displayed a solid showing on the floor, launching 4-8 (50.0%) from the field and 2-2 (100.0%) from the free-throw line, with four assists, scoring 10 points overall. Defensively, Scott was stout all night from corralling four rebounds, one block, and five steals. Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.) presented numerous scoring chances for the Quakers when juking around the WildCats defensive-front during her eight-point performance. Massenburg fired 3-8 (37.5%) from the field and 2-3 (66.7%) from the free-throw line with one assist and three rebounds collected.

Sophia Stevens would attempt to launch Randolph back into the game off of her 19-point performance. Stevens would shoot 7-16 (43.8%) from the field, 2-4 (50.0%) from the three-point arch, and 3-4 from the free-throw line, with two steals in the process. Tanaya Jackson would follow-suit with a solid-showing of her own firing 2-4 (50.0%) from the field, 1-1 (100.0%) from the three-point line, and 3-4 (75.0%) from the free-throw line. Jaellen Hillary had a top-performance defensively with five rebounds, one blocks, and three steals.

The contest would kickoff with minimal scoring for the first seven minutes of play with a combined total of six steals from both teams, four being from the Quakers. Guilford's lightning scoring run led by Giannopoulou and Scott would drive the Quakers to a 24-11 lead through one period over the WildCats.

On the back of Glahn's four three-pointers and a lone three-pointer from Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.), Guilford would control possession and extend their lead heading into the halftime break, 48-24 against Randolph.

Stevens would steer the WildCats back into business in the third period, however they would lose control of game after last minute scores from Taylor Dunn (Charlotte, N.C.) and Carmyn Claxton (Greenville, S.C.), soaring the Quakers chances of earning a second-straight ODAC victory after extending their lead, 65-36, with ten minutes remaining.

Elly Trickett's (Greer, S.C.) stretch run of seven-straight points late in the fourth period would put this battle out of reach for the WildCats, resulting in an 85-52 ODAC victory for the Quakers.

Guilford will continue their stretch of road conference matchups, taking on the Cougars of Averett University on Wednesday, January 21st inside E. Stuart James Grant Center. Tip off begins at 7:00 PM.
