Women’s Soccer Drops ODAC-Opening Match to Roanoke

Quakers’ impressive open to season encounters speedbump with first defeat

SALEM, Va. – The Guilford College women's soccer team (6-1-2, 0-1-0 ODAC) took their first defeat of the 2025 campaign, falling in initial Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match of the season, 2-0 to Roanoke College 5-4-1 (2-0-0 ODAC), 2-0 at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Madison Motto (Waxhaw, N.C.) conceded the first two goals of her collegiate career over the 21 total shots faced on the day, making a career-high 11 saves but dropping to 4-1-0. Grace Suchy was required to make just one save on the three Quaker shots to improve to 5-4-1 for the Maroons.

Rebecca Carr provided the matches' offense, netting both goals with Riley Dobranski and Brooke Nicholson providing assists for the hosts. Keeli Crisco (Albemarle, N.C.) had Guilford's lone shot on frame with Ainsley Yates (West End, N.C.) and Chloe Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.) also sending shots toward the net for the Quakers.

Working out of the right corner, Nicholson and the Maroons worked with high tempo, as a ball on the boundary nearly got out for a throw in, but instead she kept playing, turned the corner, and sent a great crossing feed into the box. While multiple Quakers seemed in position to clear it, they could not get a good piece of it and instead it rolled to Carr who ripped a left-footed shot into the bottom-left of the frame for her fourth goal of the year.

Roanoke struck again in the 27th minute with Carr collecting a pass at the top of the '18 from Dobranski but worked away from the goal to get repositioned. It did not matter as she saw daylight, turned, and lofted a left-footed shot over the Guilford backline, off the right post and in for her second goal of the game.

The rest of the way, the Maroons just maintained constant possession, playing keep-away and limiting the Guilford chances to finish off the 2-0 decision.

GC heads back up to Roanoke, Virginia next on Wednesday, October 1st to play Hollins University in a 4:00 PM match.
