GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a deja-vu type moment, the fifth-seeded Guilford College men's basketball team (19-6, 12-4 ODAC) makes the trip north to Virginia Beach, Va. to begin their pursuit of banner-number five at the TowneBank Arena on Wednesday, February 26 to clash with the four-seed, Virginia Wesleyan University (19-6, 12-4 ODAC) in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament Quarterfinals, tipping off at 7:00 PM.
There must be a sense of, "you, again?" for the Quakers who encounter the Marlins for the third time in the last four years in the ODAC Tournament, and the fifth time overall across the past two years, more than any other team. GC will be seeking a little revenge this time around, after the hosts came away with the seeding upset in the ODAC Tournament last season in the Quarterfinals. With a Senior Day victory over Averett, Guilford improved to 19-6 on the season and finished the regular season with a 12-4 mark in league play, with both of those marks being equal to the ones posted by Virginia Wesleyan this season, however, by way of the head-to-head tiebreaker, the Marlins received the higher seed. The Quakers had a tough night in their regular season clash with VWU, getting held to a season-low for scoring in a 69-50 defeat.
Gabe Proctor (Apex, N.C.) and
Dawson Edwards (Durham, N.C.) led Guilford in scoring in that game, scoring ten apiece with the latter being GC's best player on that night, making 5-of-11 from the field and capturing three steals. Amari Moorer stuffed the box score in a dominant showing, netting 18 points on 5-of-10 to go with six rebounds, three assists, a block, and four steals. Omari DeVeaux added 16 points and Khai Seargeant pitched in 11 in the Marlin win.

This will be a classic strength-vs.-strength matchup with the Quakers brilliance from three clashing with the Marlins exceptional ability to defend it. GC paces the ODAC in three-point makes per game with 8.9 while making their looks at a .375 clip which is also the league-leading mark.
Nick Farrar (Apex, N.C.) is the top offensive threat for the Quakers, scoring 19.1 points per game to go with 7.7 boards and when the three-time ODAC Offensive Player of the Week gets going, there is nearly no stopping him. While the GC as a team is the best three-point shooting squad, they also feature the top individual shooter in
Gabe Proctor (Apex, N.C.) as he makes his treys at a .424 rate to score 11.8 points per game.
Chase Ellis (Douglasville, Ga.) is the team's number-three scorer netting 9.7 points while standing second to just Farrar in field goal percentage, at .511, and surpassing Proctor in three-point percentage, at .472, albeit in far fewer attempts.
Caleb Farrish (McLeansville, N.C.) is a classic three-and-D forward and is the team's best defender as one-of-four players in the conference that rank in the top-15 in both steals and blocks.
Luke Proctor (Apex, N.C.) rounds out the starting five running the point to dish out 2.4 assists.
Amari Moorer is among the most well-rounded players in the league and paces the Marlins in rebounds per game, with 8.0, and steals per game, with 1.6, while also ranking second on the team in points, with 12.6, assists, with 2.4, and blocks, with 0.8. He does all that while shooting an efficient .523 from the field. Omari DeVeaux is the top Marlin scorer and distributer, netting 13.2 points and dishing 2.6 assists while knocking down his threes at a .384 rate. Khai Seargeant give VWU a third double-digit scorer, contributing 11.9 points while Paul Anderson is the third member of the backcourt and scores 7.6 tallies per contest. Waylo Wilson rounds out the Virginia Wesleyan starting five as a rim-running big scoring 9.7 points on a team-leading .563 field goal percentage while also pacing them in offensive rebounding, with 2.3, and blocks, with 1.6.
Tipoff between the Quakers and Marlins is set for 7:00 PM, the winner advances to the semifinals on Saturday, March 1, at 2:00 PM at the Salem Civic Center to face winner of top-seeded Randolph-Macon and eighth-seeded Shenandoah.
