GREENSBORO, N.C. — In a sharpshooting display inside Ragan-Brown Field House, the Guilford College women's basketball team (7-0, 2-0 ODAC) secured their best start to a season since the 2016-17 campaign, defeating Eastern Mennonite University (4-6, 0-2 ODAC) 71-60 on Saturday afternoon. Guilford controlled the glass throughout the contest, outrebounding Eastern Mennonite 46-30 to limit second-chance opportunities.
Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) spearheaded the Quaker attack, pouring in a game-high 19 points on efficient 8-of-13 shooting while grabbing six rebounds. Julianna Walter (Taylorsville, N.C.) provided a lethal backcourt presence, tallying 18 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 from deep, while adding a team-high four steals. Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.) followed with a sharp ten-point showing, while Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.) was a force on the court with six points and six rebounds. Karly Glahn (Charlotte, N.C.) sparked the attack with four impressive setups and six points of her own, as Taylor Dunn (Charlotte, N.C.) controlled the glass, pulling down a game-high seven rebounds.
Jeriyah Osborne led Eastern Mennonite with an impressive 15 points, while Jayda Jones added 12 on efficient 6-of-9 shooting. Lauren Townsend contributed nine points, and Annabelle Simmons collected six rebounds.
The Royals opened strong, taking a 21-18 lead after ten minutes, but Guilford flipped the momentum in the second, holding Eastern Mennonite to just four points on 2-of-12 shooting while forcing five turnovers. Walter's late three capped a dominant 17-4 quarter and sent the Quakers into halftime with a 35-25 advantage.
Guilford continued to control the pace in the third, outscoring the Royals 20-17 as Walter stayed hot from deep and Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) finished a key late-quarter layup to push the lead to as many as 16. Eastern Mennonite produced a contested fourth quarter, but the Quakers maintained steady command to close out their seventh straight win.
Guilford looks to keep its unbeaten run alive on Thursday, December 11, when they host Pfeiffer University inside Ragan-Brown Field House. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
