Women’s Basketball Secures Historic 8-0 Start with Win Over Pfeiffer

Giannopoulou posts dominant double-double as Quakers stay unbeaten

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford College women's basketball team (8-0, 2-0 ODAC) continued its remarkable start to the 2025-26 season on Thursday night, defeating Pfeiffer University (6-3, 4-0 USA South) by a 70-52 margin inside Ragan-Brown Field House. With the victory, the Quakers not only remained undefeated but also achieved the best start to a season in program history.

The Quakers shot a perfect 14-for-14 from the free-throw line, and their pressure defense and transition execution proved decisive, outscoring Pfeiffer 26-4 in fast-break points and generating 30 points off turnovers.

Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) delivered a stellar performance, powering the Quakers with a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double, while adding six assists, three steals, and four blocks in a complete two-way effort. Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) followed with 17 points and two steals, while Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.) added 11 points of her own. Julianna Walter (Taylorsville, N.C.) distributed the ball efficiently, tallying six points and five rebounds. Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.) added an important spark off the bench with 11 points on 5-7 shooting, helping the Quakers maintain their rhythm during key stretches.

The Falcons were paced by Miya Horton, who finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Lettie Michael added 11 points and a pair of blocks, while Ava Hairston chipped in nine points to round out the Pfeiffer effort.

Guilford controlled the opening minutes, building a 21-15 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin to 35-25 at halftime. Giannopoulou, Scott, and Massenburg, set the tone early, combining for 29 first-half points.

Pfeiffer fought to stay within reach, using a 21-point third quarter to cut the deficit to seven heading into the fourth. But the Quakers responded with poise, opening the final frame with a Giannopoulou jumper and a corner three from Scott. Guilford's defense tightened from there, holding Pfeiffer to just six fourth-quarter points.

The Quakers hope to continue their hot streak when they return to action this Saturday, December 13, hosting the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University (N.C.) inside Ragan-Brown Field House. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.
