Guilford SAAC Tops ODAC Fall Food Drive Campaign With Huge 2025 Collection

Quakers finish with 11,275 nonperishable food items collected in 2025 campaign

FOREST, Va. – The Guilford College Student-Athlete Activities Committee (SAAC) collected 11,275 nonperishable food items this fall, pacing the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) annual league-wide food drive competition, as announced by the conference offices on Friday afternoon.

The event ran from September 1 through November 21, with university SAAC organizations running drives and initiatives to see who, of the 14 full-time member schools, could raise the most. The Quakers claimed the top spot this fall, leading the conference with a total of 11,275 food items raised, nearly doubling any other school. Virginia Wesleyan University finished as the runners-up with a total of 5,662 followed by Bridgewater College's figure of 5,023.

More than 36,000 non-perishable food items were collected conference-wide in the drive. Collections were then distributed to organizations chosen by the athletic departments themselves with Guilford's donations benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank.

"Community is a Guilford College core value that SAAC works hard to uphold," Women's Basketball Head Coach, and SAAC Advisor, Sarah Mathews said regarding the drive. "Thank you to Food Lion and Food Lion Feeds for their generous contributions to the drive as well. Overall, we are thrilled that the group was able to better the greater-Greensboro and Guilford College communities through the food drive efforts."

GC's collection total was driven by the 24th Annual Gate City Soup Bowl competition back in September, during which the Quakers collected north of 9,000 canned goods and nonperishable food items in conjunction with the event, setting a record with their total.
