GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford College women's basketball team (9-0, 2-0 ODAC) continued its historic start to the 2025-26 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Johnson & Wales University (7-2, 1-0 C2C) 88-75 inside Ragan-Brown Field House. The victory marked the Quakers' first-ever meeting with the Wildcats and pushed Guilford to a 9-0 start, the best opening the program has ever seen. T
he performance also notched the Quakers' third 80-point game of the season.
With four players reaching double figures, Guilford showcased its depth and balance, a formula that has the Quakers ranked top-10 nationally in blocks per game (8th, 5.6) and steals per game (9th, 16.9).
Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) posted her second consecutive double-double, finishing with 21 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.
Taylor Dunn (Charlotte, N.C.) delivered a career-best performance, pouring in 19 points, including two three-pointers, while adding six rebounds.
Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) followed with 18 points and four rebounds, and
Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.) continued her strong play off the bench, scoring 17 points on an efficient 8-for-9 shooting effort.
Johnson & Wales was led by DeAshaj Crawford, who scored 21 points to pace the Wildcats. Laylah Toscano also contributed a strong double-double effort with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Korletta Daniels added 12 points to keep the Wildcats competitive during multiple stretches of the contest.
Guilford set the tone early, holding the Wildcats to just 27.8% shooting in the opening period and taking a 19-10 lead into the second frame.
The Quakers appeared to be pulling away in the second quarter, building their largest lead of the half at 14 points following an
Anaida Datilus (Chantilly, France) layup. However, Johnson & Wales responded with a scoring run late in the period, cutting Guilford's halftime advantage to just five points at 40-35.
Giannopoulou opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, sparking an offensive surge that saw the Quakers outscore the Wildcats 25-16 in the period, entering the final frame with a commanding 65-51 advantage.
In the fourth, a clutch layup by Scott extended the lead to a game-high 18 points. Although Johnson & Wales managed to trim the deficit to 11 points late in the game, Guilford responded with poise, closing out the 88-75 victory at the free-throw line.
The Quakers will look to continue their home-court reign when they kick off the Springhill Suites Guilford Holiday Classic tournament against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Sunday, December 28th, inside Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
