Women’s Basketball Dominates in the Battle of the Triad Over Greensboro

George rolls to her first career double-double, driving the Quakers victorious over the Pride.

GREENSBORO, N.C - The Guilford College women's basketball team (5-0, 0-0 ODAC) strived offensively-dominant over cross-town rival Greensboro College (2-4, 0-1 USA South), 104-56, inside the First Horizon Coliseum on Monday night.

The Quakers rolled to their second-straight 5-0 start on the back of five players recording double-digit figures. After driving for their largest lead and finish of the season, Guilford collected a plethora of season-bests shooting 40-78 (51.3%) from the field, 5-12 (41.7%) from the three-point line. Everyone came in handy tonight, seeing plenty of opportunities from the break with 54 points, 20 second chance points, and 64 points from the paint.

Julianna Walter (Taylorsville, N.C.) was in command tonight for the Quakers, firing 6-9 (66.7%) from the field and 2-4 (50.0%) from the three-point line. Walter had a smooth performance throughout all moments in regulation, collecting three assists, with one block, and three steals, for a 15-point performance. Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) would follow suit with 14-points of her own, launching 6-10 (60.0%) from the field, 2-3 (66.7%) from the free throw line, with eight rebounds, one block, and two steals. Taylor Dunn (Charlotte, N.C.) and Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.) would each display solid performances on the night, collecting 13 and 12-points during the clash, respectively. Dunn fired 5-11 (45.5%) from the field, 1-2 (50.0%) from the three-point line, going along with five rebounds and three steals. George received her first double-double of her collegiate career throughout her 12-point performance. George would shoot 6-12 (50.0%) from the field, retrieving 12 rebounds, and tying a career-best in three steals.

Greensboro would display a minimal offensive showing off of leading performers Ary Ingram and Tatum Bradford. Ingram would launch 5-9 (55.6%) from the field, 1-3 (33.3%) from the three-point line, collecting three rebounds and one steal in the process for a 12-point performance. Bradford wouldn't fare much better against the Quaker defensive-front shooting 5-12 (41.7%) from the field, nabbing six rebounds and two steals in the process on an 11-point night.

The battle would commence with Guilford scoring first from opening layups from the field by Walter and Scott. Late jumpers by Ja'Kiyah Moore (Knightsdale, N.C.) and Karly Glahn (Charlotte, N.C.) would lead the Quakers to never look back, cruising 25-14 at the end of the first period.

Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.) contributed late with two jumpers and free throws to close out a commanding 63-32 lead heading into the halftime break.

Guilford would see plenty of opportunities off late baskets coming from collegiate debuts of Kaley Mitchell (Lake Waccamaw, N.C.) and Elly Trickett (Greer, S.C.), along with Anaida Datilus (Chantilly, France) making her season debut, to steer the Quakers to a controlling 79-40 lead at third period.

Guilford commanded in their closing moments in regulation, holding their ground for their largest victory this season, 104-56, defeating the Pride in the Battle of the Triad for the fourth-straight season.

The Quakers will be back at home to kickoff action Wednesday, December 3rd, facing Roanoke College on Jack Jensen Court inside the Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse. Tip-off begins at 7:30 PM.
