LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Guilford College volleyball team (8-7, 3-4 ODAC) dropped a three-set match (25-19, 25-18, 25-10) to the University of Lynchburg (17-2, 5-1 ODAC) on Wednesday evening at Turner Gymnasium.
Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.) led the Quakers with a team-high eight kills, while
Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) added four kills.
Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) guided the offense with 18 assists, and
Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) anchored the defense with eight digs.
Lynchburg was led by Kailey Keough who had five aces, and Kate Hardie who collected 11 kills. Alexis Scipione dished out 22 assists to pace the Hornets' attack, which hit .385 as a team.
The Quakers started strong in the first set, trading points early before Lynchburg pulled away late to take it 25-19. Guilford built early momentum in set two behind kills from Duvall and Moore, but a late Hornet run sealed another 25-18 decision. The hosts carried that momentum into the final frame, using an 8-1 start to put the match out of reach and close the sweep, 25-10.
With the loss, Guilford moves to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in ODAC play.
The Quakers return to action on Friday, October 10th, traveling to Johnson & Wales University (Charlotte, N.C.) for a tri-match. Guilford faces Trinity Baptist College at 1:00 p.m., followed by the host Wildcats at 3:00 p.m.
