Volleyball Clashed the WildCats to a Five Set Victory in a Close Showdown

Moore and Duvall would lead the charge to a comeback for the Quakers to earn their second regular season conference win.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Guilford College volleyball team (7-5, 2-2 ODAC) was in a back-and-forth showdown against opponent Randolph College (6-10, 0-5 ODAC), winding up on the winning end of the match Wednesday evening inside the Frances and Don Giles Gymnasium, 3-2 after a competitive five sets of play (25-17, 25-23, 25-19, 29-27, 15-13).

Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) cruised her way to another double-double for Guilford with 15 kills and 13 digs. Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.) would add her contribution to the Quakers success with 15 kills of her own with a .376 hitting percentage. Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) would throw her opponents off guard, tallying four service aces on the night. Amber Chiarolanzio (Deep Gap, N.C.) dominated on the night, contributing 26 digs for the Quakers. Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) capped off Guilford's triumph recording another double-double, leading Guilford in 40 assists along with 14 digs.

For Randolph, Jaimie Galinis was in control with 18 kills on the night, while Caroline Towle and Kelsey Bowler added on as the supporting-cast with 12 and 11 kills,  respectively. Towle was on the prowl defensively, leading her squad with 24 digs. Kailee Turner added to the WildCats offensive command with 46 assists throughout the match.

Guilford would strike first overall, steering the ship to a 25-17 victory in the opening frame from no offensive showing from the WildCats in the opening set.

Things would get feisty in set two, as the Quakers would become victorious 25-19 after some offensive falters. Moore would put Guilford in cruise control with her set-sealing kills to put the Quakers up 2-0.

In a highly contested affair, things wouldn't fall Guilford's way as they would drop set three 25-19 with no showing on offense. Set four would be the opposite, as the Quakers would awake, taking set four to extras off the back of Duvall's stellar performance. Alas, Guilford would drop the set 29-27 in a fierce contest.

Ultimately, the Quakers would emerge victorious in set five 15-13, taking the match win over Randolph on the back of Kaci Johnson's (Winterville, N.C.) game-clinching kill to send Guilford home with the conference victory.

The Quakers are back in action for a road matchup against the No. 11 nationally-ranked Generals of Washington & Lee University on Friday, October 3rd inside Holekamp Gym in Lexington, Va. First serve at 6:30 PM.
