GC Rolls to Sixth Straight Win

Luke Proctor With a Season-High 18 Points

The sixth-ranked Quakers returned to Ragan-Brown for a pivotal conference contest against the Shenandoah Hornets. A season-best performance from Luke Proctor and his 18 points helped secure Guilford's sixth straight win, 67-55.

Shenandoah (15-7, 6-7) took the early lead in the first period, maintaining control, and securing a lead as large as seven, with 12:53 remaining (19-12). Guilford (20-2, 11-2) swiftly crawled their way out of the deficit with an 11-4 run, taking a one-point lead before both teams squared up at 24 with 6:56 left.

The Quakers scored the next eight points en route to their largest lead yet, but the visitors hung around, making a late run to cut Guilford's lead to four heading into the locker rooms (35-31). '

Second half scoring opened up with two free throw makes from Tyler Dearman. Luke Proctor made two more directly after, upping his scoring total to 11 at this point. The Quakers still held a comfortable six-point lead with 18 minutes left on the clock.

A three-pointer from the Hornets' Jaylen Williams reduced GC's lead to as little as three, but Guilford immediately went to work and restored their lead, increasing it to 11 (53-42) with 8:49 left. During this stretch, the Quakers capitalized on drawn fouls, making all four free throws, two from Julius Burch and Dearman.

The contest seemed in control until the visitors reduced the home side's advantage to just five (56-51) with 5:24 left, but Guilford were able to lock up the victory by the 11-point margin. The Quakers won their sixth straight, 67-56.

For the first time this season, Proctor led his team in scoring with 18, making 6-11 field goals and all four free throw makes. Dearman scored 16, and Julius Burch added on 13 of his own, to go along with six rebounds, three steals and one block.

As a team, GC made 15-18 free throws, and led in the rebound margin (38-25). The Quakers also added on three blocks and eight steals in a strong defensive showing.

Guilford heads away for the last time this season, to Virginia Beach on Saturday, February 10 to face Virginia Wesleyan. Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m.
