GC Piles Up Season-High in Scoring, Surpasses Lynchburg

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford College women's basketball team took on the University of Lynchburg in their second to last conference matchup of the season. A rocky first quarter quickly turned around as the Quakers ended with a victory, 90-61 at the Ragan-Brown Field House on Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers (18-5, 13-4) opened the first with a three pointer by Anna Giannopoulou. This was followed by a Hornets' (12-11, 7-9) turnover, stolen by GC's Carleigh Perry, en route to two more points credited to Giannopoulou. Lynchburg matched this exchange of points and took the lead. Guilford struggled to catch up, falling behind by five as the clock ran out, 15-10.

The second quarter did not start in favor of the Quakers at all. They struggled, not able to get on the board until the 6:42 mark, now down by double-digits, the Quakers found their groove. For the remainder of time, GC started racking up some points with a hat trick of three-pointers, two of which were credited to Zeigler and one to Taylor Dunn. In the final 34 seconds of the half, Courtney McMillan recorded back-to-back makes from behind the arc, putting GC ahead, 32-26.

To start the next stanza, the squads had a pretty even exchange of points. However, a layup by McMillan at the 5:16 mark, was the start to a 18-0 run for the Quakers, interrupted by the third quarter buzzer, 26-10. Guilford overall lead by 20, 60-40.

GC kept up their score streak into the fourth, beginning with a jumper by Giannopoulou, the start to a 7-0 run, the other points credited to Perry. This was followed by a jumper for the Hornets and then sparked another 7-0 streak for the Quakers. As the time ticked away, GC continued their impressive lead, ending 90-61.

Giannopoulou and Bayer were top scorers of the afternoon, with 15 and 14, respectively. McMillan contributed nine rebounds. Additionally, Amara Harrell led her team with a 36.40 usage percentage.

Guilford's next and final game of the regular season remains at home in the Jack Jenson Court at the Ragan-Brown Field House against Shenandoah University. The contest will take place on Saturday, February 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
