Hemmer Shines with Top-10 Finish at NCAA DIII Sprint Triathlon

Quakers prepare for NCAA National Championship after strong showing from Hemmer

WAKE FOREST, N.C. – The Guilford College triathlon team competed in the NCAA Division III Sprint on Saturday morning, traveling to Wake Forest, N.C., for the event.

Representing the Quakers were Josephine Hemmer (Greenbay, Va.), Bec Cormack (Forest Park, Ill.), and Emma Butts (Asheville, N.C.). Hemmer led the team with a standout performance, finishing ninth overall in the competition. She posted an impressive time of 13:12 in the swimming portion, securing third place in the swim rankings. In the biking segment, the senior recorded a time of 40:28, which placed her ninth overall. Hemmer completed the running portion in 29:44, finishing tenth in the run rankings to cap off her strong performance.

Butts and Cormack each completed the swim portion, with Butts clocking a time of 15:18 and Cormack finishing in 16:38. Unfortunately, both athletes were lapped out during the biking segment and were unable to finish the race.

Guilford was one of four division three teams participating, placing fourth amongst the competition.
 
Guilford's final competition is set for Saturday, November 9, as they travel to Florida to partake in the NCAA National Championship, hosted by USA Triathlon. Start time to be determined.
