The Guilford College women's volleyball completed its two-day trip in Virginia against Shenandoah University. The Quakers earned their seventh straight-set sweep of the season, besting the Hornets, 3-0.
The opening set was one filled with runs by both teams with Shenandoah leading 10-7. Guilford responded by taking control of the set, outscoring the hosts 12-2 to go ahead 19-12. The Quakers never relinquished the advantage as they won the set, 25-17.
Early in the second set, each side went back and forth but GC slowly pulled away and jumped ahead by seven (13-6). The Hornets tried to chip away at the deficit but were shutdown each time as a block by
Kaci Johnson clinched the set, 25-17.
In the third, Shenandoah held slim lead over Guilford. However, that was short lived as the visitors went on a tear, winning 13 of the next 14 points to go in front 23-12. The hosts tried one last ditch effort but kills from
Natalie Moore and
Chrisbel Alcantara ended the set (25-15) and the match.
Moore led the team in kills (11), digs (12) and aces (3) as
Maddi Page finished with 21 assists and
Vanessa Johnson leading the net front presence with five blocks. The Quakers are 3-0 in conference play to start the year, the first time since the 2019 season which was the last time the squad made the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament.
Guilford (12-2, 3-0) returns to the Ragan-Brown Field House on Wednesday, September 27 to face Averett University. Start time is set for 6:30 p.m.
