Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Extends Win Streak to Four

The Guilford College women's soccer team opened up conference play in Winchester, Virginia, facing Shenandoah University. The Quakers upended the Hornets, 1-0.

The first half was dominated by the home side, putting Guilford on the ropes. While Shenandoah took seven shots in the first 45 minutes, goalkeeper Ady Franken saw just one go on target and made the save, right after kickoff (1:08). The away offense only mustered up two. Shenandoah took nine corners, a consistency for the Hornets across the game.

The second half was more of the same for the home side, but Guilford capitalized on the chances it created, one being a goal by Lily Brown in the 60th minute, her third of the season. Andrea Cazares-Vasquez was on the assist, her first in 2023.

The Hornets took more shots in the second half, nine in total, but only mustered one on target, in which Franken made her second save. The Quaker defense held strong for the remainder of play and recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

In total, Shenandoah attempted 16 shots to Guilford's four. The Quakers faced a season-high 19 corners from the opposition, while only attempting four. 15 fouls were committed between the teams, including two yellow cards, one on both Guilford and Shenandoah.

The Quakers (6-0-1, 1-0) return to Armfield Athletic Center for a four-game homestand, the first against non-conference opponent Virginia State University on Tuesday, September 26. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
