Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Guilford Dominant in Home Win

The Guilford College women's soccer team faced Division II, Virginia State University. The Quakers bested the Trojans, 8-1.

The first nine minutes of the half was a feeling out process for both squads with possession mainly being controlled by Guilford. In the ninth minute, Baylee Greenwood drew a foul in the box for a penalty kick. Greenwood took the kick and buried it into the back of the net for the opening goal.

Roughly nine minutes later, Greenwood found herself one-on-one with a defender. She was able to make a move around the opponent and flip the ball over the keeper for her second goal of the evening.

In the 22nd minute, Mya Rivera was fouled by the opposing team. Olivia Santos stepped up to deliver the free kick. From about 35 yards out, Santos' kick hit the crossbar and found its way into the net to give GC the 3-0 edge.

Virginia State got on the board in the 40th minute when a miscue by the Guilford backline allowed the ball to go into the net. The Quakers held the 3-1 edge going into halftime.

Early in the second half, a handball was called against the visitors that set up a penalty kick for the Quakers. Greenwood once again stepped up and completed the hat-trick and put the home squad back up by three (4-1).

Guilford kept the offensive pressure going and from about 25 yards out, Audrey Kulpa fired a shot on goal that snuck past the netminder for the score. Andrea Cazares-Vasquez picked up the assist on the goal.

The Quakers added three more goals in the period from Lily Brown, Emily Brinson and Nora Hayden. GC won by the seven-goal margin.

Guilford hosts Hollins University on Wednesday, September 27 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
