Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Quakers Battle to Draw in the Rain

The Guilford College men's soccer team faced the Bridgewater College Eagles in a rain soaked match. Despite taking an early lead, the Quakers tied with the Eagles, 1-1.

The first 18 minutes of the half were evenly balanced. Each team maintained possession in the attacking end. The best chance for Guilford came in the 28th minute when a free kick was awarded to GC. From about 25 yards out, Jesse Guzman bent the ball around the Bridgewater wall to the lower right corner for the opening goal.

In the later parts of the first half, Bridgewater started to get its offense going but was only able to put a lone shot goal that was stopped by Logan Walker. Guilford held its 1-0 lead into halftime.

Play in the second half was similar to the first with each team matching the other. The first chance in the half occurred for the Quakers when the Eagles' defender drew a red card in the 53rd minute. Guzman took the free kick once more but missed on the outside of the goal.

Despite playing a man-down, Bridgewater had several chances in the offensive zone and placed four shots on target. Walker kept each one of them out of the net. In the 88th minute, the Eagles' Dicarlo Peredo-Torrico played a ball from his defensive overtop of everyone that led Riley Queen directly to the goal for the equalizer.

The Quakers were unable to muster any offensive pressure as the match ultimately ended in a draw.

Bridgewater held the advantage in shots (13-6), shots on goal (6-4) and corners (5-1). Walker played all 90 minutes in net, making five saves.

Guilford (2-5-1, 0-1-1) travels to Lynchburg, Virginia to face Randolph College on Wednesday, September 27. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
