Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

GC Drops Away Match

The Guilford College men's soccer team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia for an away conference match against Randolph. Despite being up 2-1 at the half, the Quakers lost to the WildCats, 6-2.

The first ten minutes were eventful; Randolph recorded the first shot of the game (3:38), but was blocked; midfielder Riley Copeland recorded his first shot in the 10th minute in what was a busy night on his end. Just two minutes later, Copeland sent another shot, one that found its way into the lower-left corner for the game's opening score. The WildCats replied just after, in the 13th minute; midfielder Tucker Leverone tied the game at one apiece.

Copeland continued his stellar first half with another goal, this time down the center in the 22nd minute. Goalkeeper Roman Robinson only had to make a single save from the Randolph offense in the first 45 minutes of play, to help preserve the Quaker lead at half, 2-1.

The second half was a much busier affair for both squads, but in the favor of the WildCats. Midfielder Kumayle Merchant brought the game level once more, in the 58th minute. Using that momentum, the home side scored again just a minute later putting Randolph ahead 3-2.

Randolph cushioned its lead with a pair of goals in the 75th and 76th minutes, bringing the score to 5-2. Toward the end, a sixth goal from the WildCats sealed the four-goal difference.

In total, Guilford attempted 13 shots, nine of which were on goal. Randolph attempted 19, with ten of those on target. Robinson made four saves in the game, and opposing keeper Zach Miles stopped seven Quaker shots.

Guilford (2-6-1, 0-4-1) returns to Armfield Athletic Center on Saturday, September 30 for an ODAC matchup versus Eastern Mennonite University on Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
