The Guilford College women's soccer team hosted North Carolina Wesleyan University. The Quakers defeated the Bishops, 3-1.
From the opening kick, Guilford controlled the possession early and often. The pace of play allowed the Quakers to take the lead as Olivia Santos played the ball just in front of Lily Brown. Brown then chipped the ball over the keeper for the opening goal.
11 minutes later, Crystal Rivas was tackled in the box and drew a foul that awarded GC a penalty kick. Baylee Greenwood stepped up and buried the chance in the left side of the net to give the Quakers a 2-0 lead.
Guilford kept the pressure going and held the two-goal advantage at the break.
In the second half, GC kept its command over the game. North Carolina Wesleyan had a couple of chances but amounted to nothing.
After a Bishop foul, the Quakers had a free kick from 25 yards out. Rivas took the kick and curved the shot right over the keeper to expand the lead to three goals (3-0) with just over 20 minutes left in regulation.
North Carolina Wesleyan scored its lone goal on a free kick from about 25 yards out. Guilford's strong style of play maintained the lead and secured the victory.
The Quakers held the advantage in shots on goal (7-2) and corners (7-1). Ady Franken and Madison Musgrave split time in net with each playing a full half.
Guilford makes the short trek on Tuesday, September 19 to face Greensboro College. First kick is set for 7:00 p.m.
