Quakers Survive Intense Match with Monarchs

The Guilford women's soccer team faced off against Methodist University in an energy filled game from start to finish. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for the Quakers. 

The first half of the match, the Monarchs attempted five shots on goal with one block, one miss, and three saves by Ady Franken. The Quakers had four shots, achieving success during the 13th minute with a goal by Olivia Santos, assisted by Lily Brown. Both squads battled it out for the remainder of the half as Guilford led 1-0. 

Just one minute and three seconds into the second half, another Quaker goal rolled into the net, this time unassisted by Lily Brown. 

With tensions rising, the Monarchs were scrambling to get on the board. The second have was full of cards, four yellow against Methodist and one red towards the Quakers. 

With about five minutes left in the game, Methodist was able to sneak in a goal, 2-1. For Guilford, it was a matter of running the clock to preserve their one-goal lead. This is exactly what it did, securing a Quaker victory with a very enthusiastic crowd to cheer them on.

Guilford returns to the Armfield Athletic Center on Saturday, September 16 against North Carolina Wesleyan University for an afternoon game at 2:00 p.m.
