Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Completes Away Shutout

The Guilford College men's soccer team concluded their three-game away trip as they faced North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, N.C. Despite being dominated by shots in the first half, 13-0, the Quakers were able to squeak out the 1-0 win, with a goal from forward Ryan Doyle.

The first half was controlled offensively by the Bishops, swarming the Guilford defensive zone. Eight of their first 13 shots were on target, forcing Quaker goalkeeper Logan Walker into turmoil. The freshman saved every shot ensuring that the halftime score remained at 0-0.

The Quaker offense came to life in the second half; opposing goalkeeper Rafael Farina faced three shots in the span of 14 minutes. The third was not kept out as Guilford broke the deadlock. A Doyle shot went into the low right corner, as the Quakers took the lead in the 59th minute. Forward Jake Carter was on the assist, the first of his collegiate career.

Guilford kept the pressure in the Bishops' half, as two more shots were fired off in the 61st and 62nd minutes, respectively. Walker made four more saves, the most vital being a 90th minute shot from Wesleyan forward Evann Vincent that capped the 1-0 shutout.

Despite the win, the Quakers had less corners (5-2) and were outshot overall, 23-6. Walker finished with 12 saves on the day.

Guilford returns to Armfield Athletic Center on Wednesday, September 13 to begin a four-game homestand, facing the Bruins of Carolina University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
