Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Quakers Fall to Bruins

The Guilford College men's soccer team returned home to Armfield Athletic Center, as they took on Carolina University. The Quakers fell to the Bruins, 5-1.

The Guilford defense held firm for the first 20 minutes, before a through ball from Carolina forward Luke Spillane-Davis set up midfielder Nathan Rue for the game's first score (22:32). Nine minutes later, Thomas Yegbor scored the visiting team's second goal.

Shortly after the second half whistle, Carolina stretched their lead to three in the 47th minute. Guilford got on the board at last, as midfielder Chris Hercules found the back of the net in the 62nd minute. Forward Cameron Robinson was on the assist, his first of the year.

A flurry of goals came shortly after for the Bruins. Goals scored by Atikilt Tamiru (70:40) and Yegbor (74:50) widened the visiting team's lead to four, and ensured the victory for the visiting side.

Goalkeeper Logan Walker put up five saves in 90 minutes. The Quakers only mustered up six shots, compared to the Bruins' 25. The game was a foul-heavy affair, with both teams combining for 23 on the day. Guilford failed to have a corner kick, while Carolina had two.

The Quakers' homestand continues on Saturday, September 16, as the Monarchs of Methodist University come to Armfield. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
