Softball Walks Off To Continue ODAC Run

The Guilford College softball team faced the University of Lynchburg Hornets in their second elimination game of the day. The Quakers rallied and walked it off for the 2-1 victory.

The game was a pitching dual over the fist four innings.Only six hits were allowed between the two pitchers.

In the top of the fifth, Lynchburg broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single to left center.

The Hornets maintained the lead until the bottom of the sixth. Kassidy Lancos led the inning with a single to left field. Abbie Hill moved Lancos up a base with a sacrifice bunt.

Following a pop-up, Grace Calus tripled down the right field line to bring home Lancos and even the game at one.

Starting pitcher, Shiloh Gray allowed just one runner on-base in the top of the seventh. The Quakers looked to capture the win and advance in the bottom half of the inning.

Alli Clemens led off with a single as Emma Patterson came in to pinch run. Kaci Johnson laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Patterson up.

After a strikeout, Gray looked to secure the win for herself. She executed the plan and singled up the middle as Patterson rounded third and scored for the 2-1 win.

Calus and Clemens each finished with two hits. Gray threw her second complete game win of the evening, giving up just one run (earned) on eight hits.

Guilford will face number-one seed, Roanoke College Maroons on Sunday, May 7. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
