The Guilford College softball team faced the number-one seed Roanoke College Maroons in a potential elimination game. The Quakers trailed early and struggled to take the lead as they fell 3-2.
The first run of game was scored in the bottom of the second when Roanoke capitalized on a sacrifice fly.
Guilford did not trail long as it responded in the top of the third.
Abbie Hill singled to second base as
Morgan Singletary scored.
Roanoke quickly recaptured the advantage with an RBI single to go ahead, 2-1.
The back-and-forth affair continued when
Anna Frazier lifted a ball over the left center wall to even the score at two.
However, just like the previous two innings, the Maroons answered with their third RBI at-bat of the game.
From that point on, Roanoke showed why they were the number-one seed as it held the Quakers to just one hit over the final three innings.
Guilford finishes the season with a 23-19 record which is 12 wins more than last season. In conference play, the team went 11-9.
