The Guilford College softball ventured into Virginia to take on the Eastern Mennonite Royals. The Quakers captured both games, 2-1 and 12-0.
Game1: Guilford 2, Eastern Mennonite 1
From the early onset of the game, the pitching and defense were on display. In the bottom of the second, Eastern Mennonite go on the board with a sacrifice fly to right.
Trailing 1-0, Guilford looked to respond in the third. with runners in scoring position,
Ally Morales tripled to right field to score two and give the Quakers the lead.
At this point,
Dillon Northen went to work in the circle as she allowed three base runners over the final five innings to secure the win.
Northen pitched a complete game, allowing just one run (earned) on five hits and a walk.
Game 2: Guilford 12, Eastern Mennonite 0 (5 Inn.)
Guilford wasted little time getting on the board when
Grace Calus singled through the left side to score
Abbie Hill.
Shiloh Gray followed with a single up the middle while the center fielder made an error,
Anna Frazier scored to open a 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless Royals at-bat, the Quaker bats went back to work. GC scored eight runs on three hits, five walks and two errors. Going to the bottom of the second, the visitors led 10-0.
In the fourth,
Kassidy Lancos and Hill drove in runs with respective singles. Gray held the hosts scoreless to secure the win in just five innings.
Gray threw all five innings, allowing just two hits in the contest.
Guilford returns to Haworth Field on Tuesday, April 11 for a doubleheader against Ferrum College. Game one is set for 3:00 p.m.
