GC Earns Midweek Sweep

The Guilford College softball team faced the Ferrum College Panthers in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader. The Quakers captured both games, 7-1 and 4-3. 

Game 1: Guilford 7, Ferrum 1

In the first inning, the visiting squad opened up with a RBI single down the left line. The Quakers were able to tie the game as Kassidy Lancos scored on a double. Two batters later, Grace Calus doubled to left to bring home Ally Morales.

Guilford added a run in the second and broke the game open in the fifth. The hosts scored three more runs on three hits.

Kaci Johnson drove in the final run in the sixth with a single to center as Calus crossed home.

Dillon Northen earned the win with four innings, allowing one run on three hits. Alexis Lester was credited with save as she shutout the Panthers over the final three innings.

Game 2: Guilford 4, Ferrum 3

Guilford picked up right where it left off as Lancos scored on a sacrifice fly to center field to jump ahead, 1-0. Ferrum evened the score in the top of the second with a RBI single.

With the bases loaded in the third, Shiloh Gray singled to left field to put the Quakers back in front, 2-1.

After Ferrum went 1-2-3, Abbie Hill singled to right field, sending Charlise Phillips home in the bottom of the fourth. 

The visitors pulled within one (3-2) with an RBI single to center field.  At the top of the seventh, Ferrum tied the game, 3-3, on a double to center field.

Leading off, Hill reached on an infield single. Following a stolen base, Morales laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Hill to third. Calus stepped up to the plate and delivered a walk off single to left field.


Gray earned her ninth win of the season going a complete game, allowing three runs (all earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts.

Guilford travels to Bridgewater College on Saturday, April 15 for another double header against the Eagles. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
