Quakers Battle Eagles on Senior Day

The Guilford College baseball team faced the Bridgewater College Eagles in the final home stand of the regular season. The Quakers captured game one, 6-4 before falling in game two, 14-2.

Game 1: Guilford 6, Bridgewater 4

Bridgewater took advantage of two errors to take a 1-0 lead. It took until the third inning for the Quakers to respond as Bryce Vestal scored Colin Smith. Michael Sumner followed with an RBI single to give the home team a 2-1 advantage. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Colin Smith hit a two-run homer for a 4-1 lead. Then in the sixth inning, Rylan Smith hit his own two-run home run.

The Eagles added two runs in the seventh with another in the ninth as Guilford held on for the win.

Marcello Ricigliano picked up the win, going seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits. Ty Clark earned a save as he closed the final two innings with just one run ans striking out three.


Game 2: Bridgewater 14, Guilford 2

Starting the second game, Bridgewater scored two runs off a hit and an error. The visitors added a run in the second and two more in the fourth for a 5-0 lead.

Isaiah Hairston put the Quakers on the board with a solo home run in the fourth. 

In the fifth, the Eagles scored six runs before an additional three in the sixth. 

Carter Blum scored the final run of the game in the seventh. 

Guilford hits the road on Tuesday, April 25 to face Roanoke College. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
