The Guilford College softball team faced the number-six team in the country, Virginia Wesleyan. The Quakers fell in both games, 8-0 and 5-0.
Game 1: Va. Wesleyan 8, Guilford 0 (5 Inn.)
The game was scoreless until the top of the second when Virginia Wesleyan got on the board with a RBI double.
In the third, the Marlins offense took over. They scored seven runs on six hits to take an 8-0 lead.
Guilford's strongest chance came in the bottom of the fifth when the team had the bases loaded. Unfortunately, the Quakers were unable to get a run across as the visitors captured game one.
Game 2: Va. Wesleyan 5, Guilford 0Â
VWU wasted little time as it took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.Â
The Marlins held Guilford scoreless as it added four runs in the top of the fourth.
Trailing 5-0, the Quakers best chance came in the sixth when they had runners in scoring position over three different at-bats but were unable to capitalize.Â
The visitors closed out the game to secure the sweep of the doubleheader.
Guilford will take on Roanoke College on Wednesday, April 5 on Haworth Field. Game one will start at 3:00 p.m.
