Guilford Drops Two Against Hornets

The Guilford College softball team traveled north to face the Shenandoah University Hornets. The Quakers fell in both games, 6-3 and 5-2.

Game 1: Shenandoah 6, Guilford 3

The first two innings were scoreless for both sides. In the third, Ally Morales put Guilford on the board with an RBI single up the middle. The next at-bat, Grace Calus single to right field. During the play, an error occurred that allowed Morales to score. 

In the bottom half of the inning, Shenandoah cut the deficit in half with an RBI triple. The game remained 2-1 in favor of the visitors until the bottom of the fourth when the Hornets scored two runs to take a 3-2 edge.

The Quakers tied the game in the next inning as Abbie Hill scored on an error. It was deadlocked at three until the bottom of the sixth when the hosts scored three runs on two hits including a two-run homer.

In the top of the seventh, Shenandoah held Guilford to just one base runner as GC fell by three runs.

Game 2: Shenandoah 5, Guilford 2

Shenandoah wasted little time and took a 2-0 lead with one swing. In the next frame, Makenley Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to right as Calus tagged up from third.

Guilford trailed by one until the top of the fifth when Calus scored on a throw off a single from Anna Frazier. 

The tied game was short lived as the Hornets scored three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning to take the 5-2 lead.

The Quakers were held to just two hits over the final two innings as they fell by three runs.

Guilford returns to Virginia as it will face the WildCats of Randolph College on Wednesday, April 19. Game one is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
