The Guilford College softball team hit the road to face the University of Lynchburg Hornets. The Quakers fell in game one, 2-0 but bounced back with a 3-2 in game two.
Game 1: Lynchburg 2, Guilford 0
An even battle between the two squads proved true as it remained scoreless until Lynchburg captured a 1-0 lead with a RBI single.
The Hornets added another run in the third with a RBI double to left center. From there, the host's pitcher Emily Charlton cruised and carried a perfect game until the seventh inning.
Kassidy Lancos broke up the perfect game bid with a lead-off single. After a single from
Abbie Hill,
Ally Morales laid down a bunt and reached first. As the play proceeded, Lancos tried to round third and score but was thrown out at home.
Charlton got the final two outs to secure the the 2-0 win.
Game 2: Guilford 3, Lynchburg 2
The Quakers opened up the second game with a score in the top of the second off a throwing error from the Hornets. Lynchburg was able to tie the game in the bottom of the second and then took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third.Â
Guilford was able to put some offense together in the top of the fifth inning as Makenley Mitchell scored on a RBI single from Faith Fennell. The Quakers kept the momentum going with an RBI single from Grace Calus allowing Fennell to score and take a 3-2 lead.
Shiloh Gray, who started for GC, shut down the hosts over the final three innings to perserve the win.
Guilford hosts sixth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University on Sunday, April 2 at 1:00 p.m.
