Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Brevard Outlasts the Quakers

The Guilford College women's lacrosse team hosted the Brevard College Tornados in an afternoon match. The Quakers fought but fell to the Tornados, 16-11.

Brevard opened the back-and-forth scoring in the first with a goal at the 13:50 mark, but Guilford was able to answer back with three goals scored by Sydne Sawyer, Mackenzie Richards, and Maggie Bryson to take a 3-1 lead. The Tornados, however, were able to score three straight to retake the lead.

Maggie Hartnett was able to tie the game right up with Kylie Horn scoring right after to take the lead. Brevard scored one of their own with 3:31 left to make the game a 5-5 tie. Ending the quarter the Quakers were able to find the net with 33 second left on a goal by Maggie Bryson to lead 6-5.

The second quarter started off with a Brevard goal, but the Quakers matched it a couple of minutes later with a goal by Sarah Michelle Boyce. Brevard once again took a two-goal lead with back-to-back goals but the Quakers were not going away easy and scored their own two goals to remain a goal up with a score of 9-8. With 1:27 seconds left to play the Quakers gave up a goal that tied the game 9-9 at the half.

In the third quarter, the momentum started all on the side of the Tornados. They scored four straight goals to open the quarter. Sydne Sawyer was able to slow the bleeding with her third goal of the afternoon to make the score 13-10. That did not change the momentum as the Tornados kept scoring with one more to finish out the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the fast paced game started to slow down. Brevard scored with 6:35 left in the period. Kylie Horn scored for the Quakers, but the Tornados were able to keep possession of the ball for the rest of the game.

Guilford's top players were Maggie Bryson with three goals and an assist. Sydne Sawyer netted three goals while Kylie Horn added two goals and an assist.

The Quakers is set to host Manhattanville College on Saturday, March 11 with an 11:00 a.m. start.
