Quakers Host Nationally Ranked Yellow Jackets

The Guilford College baseball team competed against the 13th-ranked Randolph-Macon College for a doubleheader ODAC matchup. The Quakers were swept by the Yellow Jackets, 29-17 and 11-3.

Game 1: Randolph-Macon 29, Guilford 17

In game one, Randolph-Macon was able to score two runs off of two hits early on. Guilford answered with five total runs from homers by Isaiah Hairston and Allden Horne for the 5-2 lead.

The visitors outscored the Quakers 11-3 over the next three innings to go ahead 13-8.

After the Yellow Jackets added five in the sixth, Michael Sumner was able to make it home on a double to right field from Rylan Smith putting the score, 18-9. 

After another scoreless inning in the bottom of the seventh, the Quakers were able to score eight runs in the bottom of the eighth. It started off with Hariston hitting a double to plate Jordan Burrough and Jacob Garton.

Collin McGuire followed with his own 2 RBI double before Guilford added four more runs for the 29-17 final.

Game 2: Randolph-Macon 11, Guilford 3

In game two, the Yellow Jackets wasted little time and grasped the early lead. Randolph-Macon scored seven runs on six hits in the opening frame.

The visitors scored three more runs in the third while the Quakers were held scoreless for the first four innings. R-MC scored its final run in the fifth while Carter Blum doubled to left field as Adam Anderson scored.

Both squads weren't able to score in the next two innings but Guilford was able to end the stretch in the eighth when Hairston ripped a double to right center to plate Sumner and Garton.

The two squads were held to one total hit in the ninth to close out the game, 11-3.

Guilford will host Roanoke College on Tuesday, March 28 at McBane Field. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m.
