Guilford Outscores Ferrum

The Guilford College baseball team hit the road to face Ferrum College. The Quakers were victorious over the Panthers, 11-7

In the opening frame, Guilford scored the opening run when Chase Wade singled up the middle. Later in the inning, Grayson Tudor hit an RBI single to right as Rylan Smith scored.

Ferrum got on the board when a run scored on an error. The Quakers quickly responded as Tudor drove in another run with a single to left center.

Ahead 3-1, Wade looked to add to the lead in the fourth. With two outs, Wade doubled to right center to score two runs. GC kept the 5-1 edge until the fifth when the Panthers scored on a double to left field.

As before, the Quakers answered as Isaiah Hairston homered to right center with Bryce Vestal on base.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Guilford added to its lead two two-RBI singles to jump ahead by nine (11-2).

In the bottom half of the eighth, Ferrum chipped away at the difference. A walk with the bases loaded followed by three–consecutive plays that drove in four runs as the hosts trailed 11-7 going to the ninth inning.

GC went down in order in the top of the ninth. In the bottom half, Wade looked to close out the game. After an opening single, Wade forced a fly ball and two strikeouts to secure the win.

Vestal went 3-5 from the plate with three runs and two RBI. Wade collected four hits, driving in three runs and scoring once. On the mound, he threw the final 1.1 innings with one hit and three strikeouts. Jackson Marcellus started on the mound and pitched five full innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and striking out five.

Guilford hosts Randolph-Macon on Saturday, March 25 for a doubleheader. Game one is at 12:00 p.m.
