Guilford Scores First Win of the Season

The Guilford College women's lacrosse team traveled to North Carolina Wesleyan to take on the Battling Bishops. The Quakers took home their first win of the season, winning 15-3.

Kylie Horn opened the scoring for the Quakers at the 12:30 mark. Maggie Harnett was able to score shortly after that giving the Quakers a two-goal lead. The Battling Bishops were able to put one on the board but Brenna Holden and Mackenzie Richards answered with their own goals to end the quarter.

N.C. Wesleyan was able to score coming out of the break but that did not phase the Quaker offense. Guilford was able to go on a five-goal streak to finish the half, including one man-up goal by Mackenzie Richards. The score going into the half was 9-2.

Guilford came out of halftime just like they finished the first half. Sarah Michelle Boyce scored a man-up goal to start the half. The Quakers scored two more goals by Madeyson Doyce and Kylie Horn. N.C. Wesleysan scored with 1:39 left in the quarter but was matched with a goal by Kylie Horn 14 seconds later to finish the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Sydne Sawyer scored to keep the distance from the Battling Bishops and then to close the game Mackenzie Richards scored in the last second to make the final score 15-3.

Richards led the team with five points (3G, 2A) while Hartnett and Horn add three goals each. Zenna Carson made nine saves in the win.
