Quakers and Pride Split Doubleheader

The Guilford College softball team faced off against crosstown rival, Greensboro College. The Quakers fell in game one, 10-3 before besting the Pride, 8-2.

Game 1: Greensboro 10, Guilford 3

Guilford got on the board first as Anna Frazier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The lead was short lived as Greensboro scored four in the bottom of the first including a two-run home run.

The Quaker went back to work in the second as Emma Patterson scored on an error. Later in the inning, Alli Clemens scored Kassidy Lancos with an RBI single to left.

Leading 4-3, the Pride expanded their lead with a two RBI single to double up the visitors. Greensboro added two runs in the third along a run in the fourth and fifth innings while holding Guilford scoreless to secure the win.

Game 2: Guilford 8, Greensboro 2

In game two, both teams were scoreless for the opening two frames. In the top of the third, Ally Morales gave the Quakers a 2-0 lead with a single that brought Patterson and Makenley Mitchell home. Later in the inning, Shiloh Gray followed with her own two RBI single as the visitors led 4-0.

Greensboro responded in the bottom half of the inning as it scored two runs. The Quakers quickly answered in the fourth as Grace Calus singled as Patterson crossed home. In the next at-bat, Gray drove in two more runs with single to right as Guilford led 7-2.

Patterson drove in the final Quaker run in the fifth as the team led by six, 8-2. Gray limited the hosts to only three hits over the final three innings as Guilford won 8-2.

Gray went 2-4 from the plate with four RBI while also pitching all seven innings, allowing two runs (all earned) on five hits.

Guilford welcomes Methodist University to campus on Saturday, March 18. Game one is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
