Game Recap: Softball |

GC Trounces Salem

The Guilford College softball team traveled to Salem College to play a doubleheader. The Quakers won the first game 9-0 before capturing a 16-2 win in game two.

Game 1: Guilford 9, Salem 0 (5 Inn.)

Both teams were scoreless in the first but it was Guilford who got it started in the second. Alli Clemens hit a solo shot over the left center wall.

That lead held until the fourth inning when the Quakers scored six runs on five hits and an error. The inning was led by two RBI doubles from both Kassidy Lancos and Grace Calus.

In the fifth, Makenley Mitchell hit an RBI single and then later scored on a throwing error to secure the 9-0 win.

Dillon Northen started in the circle and threw all five innings, allowing just one hit.

Game 2: Guilford 16, Salem 2 (5 Inn.)

To open the game, Lancos drew a walk and later stole second base but an wayward throw allowed her to come around and score. Later in the inning, Shiloh Gray grounded out as Ally Morales scored to give Guilford the early 2-0 edge.

Salem got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single. The very next inning, Abbie Hill grounded out to second which allowed Emma Patterson to score.

The Quakers held the 3-1 lead until the top of the third. The visitors scored seven runs on three hits and three errors as Hill and Calus provided the RBI hits to hand GC a 10-1 advantage.

Guilford kept the momentum going in the fourth, adding an additional six runs on four hits and errors to jump ahead 16-1. The Spirits scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Gray pitched all five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with two strikeouts.

The Quakers next doubleheader is against crosstown rival Greensboro College on Wednesday, March 15. Game one starts at 2:00 p.m.
