The Guilford College baseball team welcomed a familiar foe to McBane Field, the Greensboro College Pride. Behind a incredible performance from junior pitcher,
Jackson Marcellus, the Quakers bested the Pride, 24-3.
On the mound,
Jackson Marcellus threw a gem of a game. Marcellus went eight innings, allowing only three hits while striking out six in the win. From the plate, it was
Bryce Vestal, going 4-5 with four RBI and scoring four more runs.
After a scoreless inning and a half,
Chase Wade put Guilford on the board with a line drive, two-run homer down the right field line. Later in the inning,
Isaiah Hairston stepped to the plate with the bases loaded a roped a double to right center to clear the bases and give GC a 5-0 edge.
In the fourth, the Quaker bats went back to work as they scored 10 runs on nine hits led by a grand slam off the bat from
Bryce Vestal.
Guilford kept the momentum in the fifth with seven runs on the same amount of hits including a three-run blast over the right field wall.
The hosts added two more runs in the seventh before Greensboro scored three in the ninth.
10 different Quakers drove in a run while totaling 12 extra base hits.Â
Guilford welcomes Washington and Lee University on Saturday, March 4 for the first conference doubleheader of the season. Game one is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
