The Guilford College women's basketball team traveled to Washington and Lee University in a battle for the top spot in the ODAC standings. Early deficit proved too much for the Quakers as they fell on the road, 82-67.
Leading all scorers was
Lindsay Gauldin with 30 points while going 10-21 from the field and 8-11 from the free throw line.
Anna Giannopoulou added 12 points with eight rebounds.
Washington and Lee (17-6, 14-2) opened the game with a 7-2 run. A jump shot from
J'la Hinson pulled Guilford (19-4, 12-4) within two (7-5) but the Generals responded by scoring 14 of the final 18 points to lead by 10 (21-11).
The second period was an evenly balanced contest between the two squads. The hosts expanded its advantage to 19 (37-18) but an 8-0 run by the Quakers to close the half kept them within 11.
Coming out of their respective locker rooms, both teams continued its scoring prowess. GC had its best period, scoring 26 points and shaving the deficit to eight (60-52) going to the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Guilford kick started the fourth with four-straight points as it trailed 60-56 with 8:58 to go in the period. Unfortunately, Washington and Lee roared back and recaptured a double-digit lead. The Generals held on for the 15-point victory.
Carleigh Perry was the third Quaker in double digits with 11 points. GC struggled from distance, making five of its 20 three-point attempts while the hosts went 15-29 from behind the arc.
Guilford travels to Ferrum College on Wednesday, February 15 for the final road game of the season. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
