The Guilford College women's basketball team concluded its trip to Georgia against Berry College. A 10-point deficit after the first leads to the Quakers defeat, 63-53.
In the opening period, Berry jumped out to an early 7-1 lead. Guilford responded with a 7-0 run capped off by a
Taylor Dunn three. Over the final five-plus minutes, the Vikings held the Quakers scoreless while scoring 11 points to lead 18-8 going into the second.
Guilford responded to open the second as it outscored the hosts, 13-6, and trailed 24-21 with 3:57 left in the period. Berry started to regain control of the period and pushed its advantage to seven and led 32-25 heading into the locker room.
The two sides went back-and-forth in the beginning of the third until the Vikings slowly stretched its lead out to 12 (50-38) with 1:04 left in the third.
Zoe Bayer scored the final five points of the period cut the deficit down to 50-43 as the game went to the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Both sides exchanged baskets for the majority of the fourth. Guilford cut into the hosts' lead, 56-51, with 4:19 on the clock but were stymied there as Berry went on to win by the 10-point margin.
Taylor Dunn and Bayer led the Quakers with 10 points each.
Anna Giannopoulou finished with eight points and 10 rebounds while
Carleigh Perry added nine points and eight rebounds.Â
Guilfor returns back to Ragan-Brown Field House on Wednesday, January 3 to face Averett University. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
